The Toyota Highlander is Taken Down a Notch by the New Volkswagen Touareg

The Toyota Highlander stands tall in name only, which is evident when compared to the new Volkswagen Touareg in Claremont. Standard power, comfort, and features is the name of the game when it comes to the Touareg, outdoing the Highlander in most regards.

  • Power: The standard 3.6-liter V6 engine in the Touareg powers up to 280 horsepower and 266 pound-feet of torque. Standard power in the Highlander? 185 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque. The Touareg also has a standard max towing capacity of 7,716 pounds, well more than the Highlander's 1,500 pound standard towing capacity.
  • Comfort: Do you like a comfortable riding experience? A heated driver seat and dual zone climate control come standard in the Touareg. The Highlander will make you upgrade to higher trim levels. And that takes more money.
  • Features: Keyless start? Rear parking aid? Power liftgate? Leather wrapped steering wheel? All standard in the Touareg! You'll have to pay as much as $11,000 extra ($11,000!) for some of these features in the Highlander.
